Hi 👋 I’m Brian Gans, MD. I practice Palliative Medicine 🏥, which is a subspecialty of Internal Medicine. This branch of medicine provides specialized medical care for people living with a serious illness. This type of care is focused on providing relief from the symptoms and stress of the illness. The goal is to improve quality of life for both the patient and the family.
I also have a focus in Oncology Supportive Care, which is Palliative Medicine that is focused on caring for cancer patients. I work with a multidisciplinary team that includes medical oncology, surgical oncology, radiation oncology, and many other disciplines. I will likely talk more about my subspecialty because of how much I love caring for cancer patients.
"We’re always being told find your voice. When I was younger, I never really knew what this meant. I used to worry a lot about voice, wondering if I had my own. But now I realize that the only way to find your voice is to use it. It’s hardwired, built into you. Talk about the things you love. Your voice will follow." - Austin Kleon, Show Your Work
I’ve made the decision to work in public, which was recommended by one of my favorite authors, Austin Kleon. He wrote Show Your Work to demonstrate the importance of sharing your passion. When you write about your thoughts and talk about what you're passionate about, you become a lightning rod for others who share your interests.
I am going to write about art, medicine, and productivity. I want to share what I’ve learned as I continue to practice Oncology Supportive Care. Please feel free to subscribe to my newsletter above and join me as I show my work. ✍️
